Is that a term we find in the scriptures? In this present world in which we live, we have heard and seen so much "political correctness" that we may become baffled at the insanity of such foolishness. Years ago, one that stood out greatly was when "man-hole cover", which allows a man to descend into the sewers so they can be serviced, became "politically incorrect"! Although females are not usually the ones who go down into the sewers for maintenance, the feminist movement got in an uproar and demanded that "person-hole cover" must now be used so as not to offend any gender by our speech in reference to the big steel cover over the sewer. Is there a chance that some of this political correctness has filtered into the body of Christ?
Anyone who reads the Bible will see the term "sons of God" used several times. However “daughters of God” is not used. Seemly many have come to believe that we should follow the worldly narrative and be just as "politically correct" with our use of the scriptures accommodating the agenda of today. When the scriptures use “sons of God,” many feel compelled to include "sons and daughters of God" so as not to offend any gender. Most everyone expounding on the scriptures or giving prophecies these days will usually now include the term "sons and daughters of God". One might ask, "Well what is wrong with that?"
If we use our Bible program with a strong's concordance, and type in "daughter of God" or "daughters of God" or "God's daughter", and click a search on each phrase, we will see; no references found. That should send up a big red flag and cause us to examine our thinking, especially in these days of having to be "politically correct". If we should offend anyone by our "political correctness", would we prefer to offend God or would we prefer to offend man? Jesus highly suggest that it be man and man's wisdom that we offend and not the Truth of God's Word
Trying to be short and to the point, let's look at the creation of man.
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
God created the species of "man" male and female and named them both Adam. So when God completed creating the species of man, we see a man who is male and we see a man who is female. Today we usually use "mankind" to refer to both sexes of the species. Since there was no one else on earth at that time, there was no confusion when either should say, "hey Adam come over here and get a load of this."
Of course if we read a bit further, we find that it was the male of the species of man that named the female of the species of man "woman" or the one with the womb i.e. womb-man. We also see that the male of the species also gave the female of the species another name by which she was to be called and that was Eve.
Gen 2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Gen 3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
As we progress through the Old Testament we will find approximately 63 references to "daughters of _____" with several names following. However, we will not find "daughters of God" even once. Also we will not find "daughter of God" even once. Also we will not find "God's daughter" even once. This should alert our thinking that we may need to do a bit more research and study as to our terminology.
In the recent times, we have seen a wicked agenda by the radicals to eliminate gender. Many years ago we had a TV program entitled "Father Knows Best". This show typified the man as the husband, father, provider, and the one with wisdom and answers to the situations and problems of family life, usually discussed at the family dinner table. After the "feminist movement" set out to emasculate the man and push women to being equal with men, we began to see TV programs like "Married with Children" with Al Bundy representing manhood. Oh my!
If we examine the scriptures pertaining to the physical realm of man, we will clearly see stated in the scriptures that Christ is the head of man and man is head of the woman.
Cor 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
If we examine the scriptures pertaining to the body of Christ, which is the church, we will find that being members of the body of Christ is not based on social status, nationality, or gender. The term “sons of God” has nothing to do with gender. It has everything to do with “authority,” “position” and “inheritance” in the body of Christ, which is the church.
Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor
female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed,
and heirs according to the promise.
When a male or a female of the species of mankind believes in his or her heart that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess that fact with their mouth, they become born again or saved. Both of those terms are used in the scriptures. That which takes place at that point in time is not properly taught by the church today. Many teach that we receive The Holy Spirit, i.e. the third member of the Godhead into our heart. However, the scriptures state that God sends the Spirit of His Son into our heart whereby we call God our Father. Romans 8 also confirm this using the terms “adoption of sons" and "Spirit of Christ" as we will see.
Gal 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
Notice that there is no distinction between males and females. This is highly important!
Notice that the members of the body of Christ becoming an heir of God and a joint-heir with Christ, it totally based on our receiving the spirit of Christ.
Under the Law, during which time Jesus was made of a woman, the females of the family received no kingship positions, no priesthood position, no inheritance of property nor any authority in the family linage. Pertaining to the children of Israel, the sons were the heirs of the family headship, heirs of authority positions, and heirs of the family lands and treasures. Also we do not see the Lord appointing females in king positions in the OT. Also we do not see females as priest in the nation of Israel.
Rom 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.
Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of (from) God, they are the sons of God
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit. of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
In the body of Christ, which is the church, the title "sons of God" has nothing to do with gender. However “sons” has everything to do with the position of being an heir of God and also the position of ruling and reigning with kingship authority and also carrying priestly authority with Christ in the kingdom of heaven on the earth during this dispensation of grace.
When we name or call female believers "daughters of God", it would seem that we have deviated from the Word of God to "political correctness." By doing so, have we emasculated the female believers from their "son ship authority", their "inheritance" and their position as “king and priest unto God” on the earth? In the body of Christ, both male and female are referred to as sons, kings, priest and heirs of God.
After the day of Pentecost, in the body of Christ, bothgenders of mankind, males and females are referred to as the sons of God. Again, the scriptures state that in the body of Christ there is neither male nor female.
It is highly important to distinguish between the natural realm where we have both sons of men and daughters of men and then contrast that fact with the body of Christ where we only have sons of God.
We do need to address “the children of God”, used in Romans 8:17 and one other scripture, which when surface read, seems to indicate God has sons and daughters. Of course children in the natural realm can refer to boys and girls or men and women. The other scripture is 2nd Cor 6:18 where sons and daughters appear. Let’s look at children first.
Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
In Romans 16 & 17 children is #5043 teknon (tek'-non); from the base of 5098; a child (as produced):
#5043 does not indicate gender. It seems that the reason for using child (teknon) here is because; the subject matter pertains to the fact that, through the new birth, we have become descendants of God or we could say we are of the family of God. We are the heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. In the natural realm, the example used here fits our natural understanding that the children are the heirs of their parents. Again, the Greek word teknon does not specify gender.
Now, let’s look at the one case in the New Testament that, on the surface, seems to say that God has sons and daughters. If we do the normal church method of “one verse doctrine” here, it seems clear that God has sons and daughters.
2 Cor 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Reading all of it would be appropriate at this point. However, we will just take up where Paul is summarizing with much feelings toward the people in the area of not being unequally yoked with unbelievers.
2 Cor 6:13 Now for a recompense in the same, (I speak as unto my children (teknon),) be ye also enlarged.
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness
with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living
God; as God hath said (this is an OT quote here), I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I
will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 (Back to NT instructions) Wherefore (you Corinthians belivers) come out from among them,
(the unbelieving idol worshippers) and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean
thing; and I will receive you,
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord
Almighty.
The OT quote is from Ezekiel 37 speaking to the children of Israel. None of the children of Israel were called sons of God nor daughters of God. Before Jesus, Adam was the only human being called the son of God. However, Paul uses this OT scripture of “God’s people” as a comparison to the position of believers in the church after the Lord Jesus from the dead.
NT believers are called heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. Let’s look at “people” from the OT scripture and compare “sons” and “daughters” from the NT and compare the two.
Ezek 37:27 My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my
people.
people is #5971 `am (am);from 6004; a people (as a congregated unit); specifically, a tribe (as those of Israel); hence (collectively) troops or attendants; figuratively, a flock:
Notice that neither “son” nor “daughter” is included in the definition of the Hebrew word used for people in the OT verse. However, the KJV translators took the liberty to translate that word into the Greek NT as sons and daughters. Going from Hebrew to the Greek allows for a chance to misapply the OT quote into English.
2 Cor 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
sons is #5207 huios (hwee-os'); apparently a primary word; a "son" (sometimes of animals), used very widely of immediate, remote or figuratively, kinship:
daughters is #2364 thugater (thoo-gat'-air); apparently a primary word; a female child, or (by Hebraism) descendant (or inhabitant):
The OT verse uses “people” and refers to a tribe or a certain set of people i.e. the children of Israel. Also, believers in the OT never called God “Father”. We see the NT word for “sons” can mean “kinship” and the NT word for “daughters” can mean “descendent”, it would seem more accurately translated from the OT scripture into the NT as heirs, family or descendants.
Ezek 37:27 My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
2 Cor 6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, (i.e family or descendants) saith the Lord Almighty.
Let’s look at another scripture in the NT where it could be said that the word #2364 thugater is translated as “daughter” and maybe should have been translated differ
ently. Jesus is speaking.
Luke 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?
a daughter is #2364 thugater (thoo-gat'-air); apparently a primary word [compare "daughter"]; a female child, or (by Hebraism) descendant (or inhabitant):
We certainly know that she was not the daughter of Abraham! At the time Jesus made these remarks, Abraham had been dead and stinking for hundreds of years.
She was in the linage of Abraham and a descendant of Abraham. It would seem more correct here to translate #2364 as descendant or heir of Abraham.
Some might judge this not to be a big deal. However, the Devil will certainly try to beat us on a technicality. Let’s just look at a few scriptures and I encourage each one to ask the Lord if this should even be a concern in the body of Christ.
John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave them power to become the sons of God (no mention of daughters here), even to them that believe on his name:
I Jn 3:1a Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God (no mention of daughters here):
Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God (no mention of daughters here).
Phil 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God (no mention of daughters here), without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons (no mention of daughters here), God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Heb 12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son (no mention of daughters here), despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son (no mention of daughters here) whom he receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons (no mention of daughters here); for what son (no mention of daughters here) is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons (no mention of daughters here).
There are several more scriptures one could use here. One might say, “This is splitting hairs”! One might say, “This is straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel”! One might say, “Picky, picky, picky!
One might say, “Since God sent the Spirit of His Son into our heart whereby we cry Abba Father, this might have a lot to do with us NT believers as being heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ and also having to do with us having sonship authority, being kings of the King, being priests of the Most High God and our ruling and reigning on the earth with Christ and occupying until He returns.” In the OT, God never sent the women of Israel out to war! Selah!
